Nothing Is Impossible Under the Sun by Alice Myers from Tipi Bookshop on Vimeo.
For two years I traveled easily and often across the border to Calais, getting to know those who are homeless while attempting to cross, those who smuggle them across, those who are claiming asylum in France and those with no legal status and no plans to leave.
This book brings together materials resulting from this process, including found photographs, writing, drawing, transcripts of conversations and negotiated portraits to form a fragmented representation of people who are legally invisible and the spaces to which they are consigned. Here there is farcical tragedy, futile repetition, and the impossibility of rest.
Nothing is Impossible Under the Sun is published by SOAP, and was launched at Street Level Photoworks in Glasgow, and Breadfield in Malmö, with an accompanying exhibition. If you’d like to support the project, you can order your copy below.
Also available to buy from Street Level Photoworks, Tipi Books, Photobookstore, L’Ascenseur Végétal, Breadfield, Impressions Gallery, Open Eye Gallery, The Photographers Gallery Bookshop, Aye-Aye Books and NewBridge Bookshop.
The project was made possible by the generous support of the IdeasTap/Magnum Photography Award. It was Self Publish be Happy ‘Book du Jour’ and was shortlisted for the MACK First Book Awards. The book was exhibited as part of the Photographers’ Gallery New Talent in 2019.
“Nothing is Impossible Under the Sun is a beautifully evocative journey into the paradoxes of relationships, resistances and realities of those human beings living in Calais in a state of exception”
